|
The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 (SENDA) became law in September 2002. The second phase of this Act became law in September 2003 and a third phase becomes law in September 2005. To help staff become aware of their responsibilities under SENDA the University has produced a booket entitled 'The Disability Discrimination Act - Guidance for Staff'. This booklet is available from the Centre for Learning and Teaching, Special Needs in Student Services and from Human Resources. It is also available on-line - Disability Discrimination Act - Guidance for Staff (pdf file - 18 pages). The Centre for Learning and Teaching will conduct staff awareness sessions on SENDA on request. email Cathy Gerrard in CLT. Special Needs are available to give guidance on individual queries and
can conduct more specialised awareness sessions eg Supporting Students
with Dyslexia. Human Resources are incorporating Disability Legislation Awareness for all new staff at Induction Sessions.
